Sometimes it feels like I came out of the womb holding a pencil. Even as a young child, I was obsessed with drawing and writing little stories of my own. With my pencil in hand, the possibilities were unlimited. That being said, as I grew older I started to have the mindset that a “big girl” job meant that I had to abandon my creative side to settle with a career path that would be more stable. This is how I ended up starting off as a pre-nursing major at UNC.
However, in the middle of my sophomore year, I realized that I would likely end up unhappy if I continued my studies as a nurse. Deep down inside, I knew that I still had the desire to express my creativity. While taking classes at the Hussman School, I found a new interest in the world of advertising and the storytelling that accompanies it. While I knew there was creativity involved in painting and printmaking, I had never before explored how I could use my creative side in my future career. Before I knew it, I wanted to take on the world once again, this time with my pencil back in hand. I not only want to develop the story of who I am as I get older, but I also want to be able to develop my own skills in storytelling and branding to help others in my journey in the advertising field.
